Assemblymember Connolly Appointed as Vice-Chair of Climate Change Policy Committee

Joint Legislative Committee on Climate Change Policies (JLCCCP) provides permanent oversight over the State's climate policies

For immediate release:

SACRAMENTO, CA – Yesterday, Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood) announced the appointment of Assemblymember Damon Connolly (D-San Rafael) as Vice-Chair of the Joint Legislative Committee on Climate Change Policies (JLCCCP), which is tasked with providing oversight on the State’s climate policies and provides recommendations on programs, policies, and investments related to climate change. Mr. Connolly is one of only four freshman Assembymembers appointed to a committee chairmanship.

“I am honored that the Speaker has appointed me as the Assembly Vice-Chair of the JLCCCP,” said Assemblymember Connolly. “As communities in the North Bay and throughout California endure the impacts of the worsening climate crisis, the JLCCCP will provide the innovative policy recommendations necessary to reach a clean energy future and mitigate the risk of climate-induced disasters like wildfires. I am honored to serve in this position and look forward to getting to work with my colleagues.”

The JLCCCP was established in 2016 to provide ongoing and permanent oversight over the implementation of the State's climate policies. Consisting of at least three Senators and three Assemblymembers, this committee is required to make recommendations concerning state programs, policies, and investments related to climate change. The JLCCCP is also authorized to establish a panel of experts to provide an independent analysis of state policies and their effectiveness.

Due to its scope, the JLCCCP is well-positioned to connect the jurisdictions of several legislative standing committees, including those that analyze issues of air quality, transportation, energy, and local government. The Committee provides a critical perspective that is required to oversee integrated climate change policies throughout the State, regional municipalities, and local agencies.

Assemblymember Connolly represents Assembly District 12, consisting of Marin County and Southern Sonoma County.
