Assemblymember Connolly was awarded for his environmental advocacy at the Audubon California, Community Water Center, California Trout, and Clean Water Action Welcome Back Reception
SACRAMENTO, CA – Last night, Assemblymember Damon Connolly (D-San Rafael) was honored with an Environmental Champion award from Audubon California and Clean Water Action for his strong and consistent environmental work and steadfast partnership in protecting California’s small drinking water systems and managed wetlands. Awarded alongside Assemblymember Dawn Addis, Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan, Senator Maria Elena Durazo, and Senator Bill Dodd, the Environmental Champion award honors legislators who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to environmental advocacy.
“It is an honor to be recognized by such esteemed environmental advocacy organizations, and I am dedicated to my commitment to protecting our drinking water and wetlands,” said Assemblymember Damon Connolly (D-San Rafael). “Wetlands are a critical natural resource for our state, and our depleting groundwater resources are impacting vulnerable disadvantaged communities. My wetlands protections bill, Assembly Bill (AB) 828, has recently passed out of the Assembly Water, Parks, and Wildlife Committee, and I am looking forward to further engagement on this important issue as this bill heads to the Assembly Appropriations Committee.”
Assemblymember Connolly was honored with the Environmental Champion award for his work protecting endangered wetlands and access to clean drinking water for small and disadvantaged communities. Assemblymember Connolly’s AB 828, which allows managed wetlands and small disadvantaged communities to use their average annual water usage without being subject to excessive fines, has recently been passed out of the Assembly Water, Parks & Wildlife Committee and is now heading to the Assembly Appropriations Committee. Protection of our wetlands is a critical factor in the health of our state, and this legislation protects vulnerable communities from drought and affordability challenges.
