SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, Assemblymember Connolly passed Assembly Bill (AB) 828 out of the Assembly Water, Parks & Wildlife Committee, which allows managed wetlands and small disadvantaged communities to use their average annual water usage without being subject to excessive fines by Groundwater Sustainability Agencies (GSAs) as part of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA). Several GSAs are proposing groundwater allocations that are unworkable for rural communities and endangered wetlands. AB 828 will protect small communities’ access to safe and affordable drinking water and keep some of the state’s last wetlands from going dry.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, Assemblymember Damon Connolly (D-San Rafael) introduced Assembly Bill (AB) 1790, a bill that will require the California State University (CSU) system to strengthen protections against sexual harassment and update their policies regarding how the Universities process sexual harassment complaints and allegations. These improvements were outlined in a 2022 report conducted by the California State Auditor (Auditor) assessing the CSU’s handling of sexual harassment complaints against employees. After investigating sexual harassment case files at four CSU campuses, including Sonoma State University, the committee determined that some allegations of sexual harassment had not been adequately or consistently addressed.

Assemblymember Connolly Introduces Bill to Reduce E-Bike Collisions

SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, Assemblymember Damon Connolly (D-San Rafael) introduced a bill that will address the increasing rates of unsafe electric bicycle (e-bike) usage and collisions from children riding these vehicles at high speeds. AB 1778 will amend California’s Vehicle Code to prohibit individuals under the age of 16 from operating a class 2 e-bike and would ensure these vehicles are not sold if they can exceed the speeds of their class designation.
