Assemblymember Connolly Hosts Contest for New Bill Ideas

Assemblymember Connolly invites residents of AD 12 to submit their ideas for new state legislation.

For immediate release:

SACRAMENTO, CA – Assemblymember Damon Connolly (D-San Rafael) is hosting his third official "There Ought to Be a Law" contest. This program allows residents of Assembly District 12 (AD12) to propose new state legislation that could improve the lives of 38.9 million Californians, particularly those in the North Bay.

Last year, over 300 ideas came in from constituents throughout the North Bay. With such enthusiasm, Assemblymember Connolly is excited to introduce this opportunity again for his third year in the State Legislature and bring the ideas of AD12 residents to Sacramento. North Bay residents are passionate, engaged, and involved in their local communities, and we look forward to hearing their ideas for potential legislation that addresses the issues most important to Marin and Sonoma County.

Last year, our “There Ought to be a Law” contest winner’s idea became AB 2968, which was signed into law by the Governor and went into effect this year! AB 2968 requires schools at risk of wildfire to create a wildfire evacuation plan.

Proposals can include ideas for local community improvements, statewide reform, revisions to existing laws, entirely new policies, budget requests and funding proposals, and more. To submit your ideas, visit Assemblymember Connolly’s website and fill out the form before January 31. This contest is open to all AD12 residents. After the contest closes, participants will be contacted directly to discuss their ideas and announce the contest winner!
